The 2012 Academy Awards have been announced… you can see the list below. But, first, I’m going to give you my opinion. After all, this is Drew’s Werd.
OK, first have you noticed the presence of the comedy film and Actor this year? Bridesmaids, The Artist, Jonah Hill are all nominated for the coveted Trophy and hm… I wonder why? It’s because the Oscars are usually incredibly boring! Whenever you watch them, it’s almost like all of these actors (who you enjoy) have this pompous stick up their ass. But, I don’t blame them, I’d be the same way too. However, that doesn’t make for good television… now does it? So, add a little fun to the show, nominate the people who don’t always get recognized and spice it up a little bit. Fine. You can have that. Whatever.
Now on to Best Picture. Do you all remember when The Dark Knight wasn’t nominated and everyone got PISSED? So, they extended the Best Picture Nominees to 10. This way there were more films to add and less people to be pissed off not getting what they deserve. This year… Oh, this year… guess how many nominees? Nine. NINE!?! Are you kidding me? You nominate Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which has a 48% ROTTEN on Rotten Tomatoes and you don’t even consider Drive, Shame or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? News flash, Academy, just because Tom Hanks & Sandra Bullock are amazing actors and Stephen Daldry has been nominated 3 times… does not guarentee they’ll make a good movie! Did you check the screeners? And, have you seen Larry Crowne or All About Steve? Wow.
I am very pleased that Rooney Mara got her nomination, if you haven’t seen Dragon Tattoo, do yourself a favor and check it out. She deserves it. I’m also kind of happy Melissa McCarthy got nominated. I means, Bridesmaids was predictable but she was really fearless in that, she made you laugh and actually give a shit at the same time. That’s not easy to do. I am also very pleased that Margin Call got the Screenplay nod, that film did not get the recognition or the money that it deserved. But that could all change.
I’m sorry for Albert Brooks not getting nominated for Drive, I’m sorry every actress in The Help but Emma Stone got a nomination. And, I’m also sorry that my comedy skits didn’t get any credit for Short Film! This is terrible.
I also wanted to say I feel a little cheated this year. Only 9 films nominated, when there can be ten and only two songs nominated when there can be five. It’s either the Academy got lazy this year or no one campaigned their songs enough? Whatever it is, it’s a shame because I’m feeling like someone got left out. What about Bruno Mars for “It Will Rain”? That was from the Twilight shitfest! Just Kidding.
