Terribly Awesome

I haven’t really been posting any news regarding the Cannes Film Festival currently going on right now, but when the new hits, it hits. The most buzz is coming from Precious director- Lee Daniels. It seems he’s written and directed a film that has many critics divided and it’s a hoopla-event, if you know what I’m sayin’.
The Paperboy stars Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey & John Cusack about two brothers in the 1960’s trying to investigate whether or not a man on death row is possibly innocent. And the word on this project? It’s so bad, it’s good. It’s so incredibly stupid that it makes you want to see it. Critics are praising it for it’s direction and others are hating it for it’s results. It seems this is a repeat of Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales.
When Southland premiered at Cannes, it was divided. When the film came to theaters, it was also divided and it ended up being on both the Top 10 Best and Top 10 Worst films of the year lists. Me? It’s one of my favorites. I LOVE that movie so much and can watch it over and over again. Especially when the two trucks have sex.
In regards to The Paperboy, I say bring it on! C’mon, admit it, how many of you have a guilty pleasure film that are panned by critics and you enjoy? I know I do… Just Friends, Battleship, those are just two I can think of right now that got terrible reviews and I was like BOOM! I would watch it again. And, I most-likely have. I don’t want an Oscar-worthy film all the time. Honestly, sometimes they bore the shit out of me. I want something that might make me laugh when I’m not supposed to, something that is just so unbelievable I can’t help but giggle. That, my friends is what moves are all about – Escaping your reality for a minimum of an hour and a half and being about to “live” in these peoples realities. Albeit ridiculous, crude or obnoxious – fun, is where it’s at.
