My Weekend Adventure…

I had a wonderful weekend… how about yourselves? I hope so, after all… it’s the weekend! Well, I had a productive weekend, supporting the Entertainment Industry, which I love so much. And, more importantly, supporting friends! As some of you might be aware, it is pilot season. What is pilot season, you may ask? When it’s when I bunch of writers put out all of their scripts for a TV series and they may or may not get them filmed as a presentation to networks to become series. It’s kind of like a teaser, they shoot the first episode to see if you’ll like it, and then put it together and give it to the network to check.
I was lucky enough to catch Greg Malins/Greg Berlanti pilot on the Warner Brothers lot on Friday night. Malins has written for such shows as How I Met Your Mother and Two Broke Girls, Berlanti has 4 (or more?) shows in pilot presentation at the moment, clearly he’s kicking ass. Personally, I’m not a HUGE fan of multi-cam sitcoms, live audience laugh tracks and hokey one-liners. But, I’ve never been a huge fan of those, not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just that I’m much more of a fan of the single-camera subtle comedy. Like New Girl, as opposed to How I Met Your Mother.
This pilot, currently untitled, but formally known as Oh F**k, It’s You! – which I love, btw. Was actually pretty cute. Sure, I’m a little bias because the adorable Amy Paffrath (who you may remember from Hair Gel) opened the show as a blonde, and I think she’s a talent beyond and beyond. But, I thoroughly enjoy the entire cast… highlights definitely included Greg Grunberg in a comedic turn, being broad and loud. I’m so used to this dude on Felicity or Heroes where he’s much more subtle and not so loud. I really enjoyed it though. The two leads, Joanna Garcia Swisher and David Walton are a perfect pairing… but, the real stand outs (besides Amy, obviously) were the supporting characters, the girl whose name I didn’t catch and Matt Cook and Ryan Gaul. Classic, perfect supporting roles to make the leads look good and keep the funny going.
I’m definitely interested in checking this one out when and if it airs… which it should. It would be my first multi-cam comedy that I’ve gotten into in a long time. I think the only others that I always checked out were Boy Meets World and Friends… wow, the 90’s. I won’t give anything away from what I saw, but I will definitely keep you posted as to when and where you can see it.
Also this weekend, I hit the movies and checked out The Cabin in the Woods. Again, I won’t give anything away… but if you didn’t see it, you should. Like, Now! It’s wonderful, fun, creative and just a blast. Check out some of the reviews on RottenTomatoes.com – it’s totally worth it.
